Abstract: »The chapter examines the impact of the Sauvé Report on sexual abuse in the French Catholic Church. Published in 2021, the report exposed ‘systemic’ abuse and recommended structural reforms. However, two years later, little progress has been made, disappointing victims/survivors and reform advocates. Despite initial momentum, the Church’s response has been slow and quite inconsistent. Bishops acknowledged the issue and made some reparations, but have largely resisted deeper structural reforms. Many faithful Catholics expressed shock but were divided on how to proceed, with some advocating for change and others wanting to “turn the page.” New revelations continue to emerge. While the scandal has significantly eroded the Church’s moral authority in France, its long-term institutional consequences remain uncertain.« (Source: Annual Review of the Sociology of Religion)
